State Love Pillow – Cricut DIY

I moved to Florida 14 years ago, and for a long long time I felt like a Louisiana girl living in Florida. Don’t get me wrong, I adored it here, but it didn’t quite feel like “home”…If you have moved from the place you grew up, you will know what I mean. A few years ago, we relocated to a new city in Florida and even though I can not explain it fully, I finally felt like I was home. It’s a smaller town with big town amenities and a place where everyone is separated by about 2 degrees. You run into friends and acquaintances at random places on a regular basis. I still haven’t found anything about this town I don’t love, from the people, to the food, to the beaches, to the rivers. After 14 years, I began to feel like I was a Floridian who was from Louisiana. I know it’s a small twist of words, but it’s a big thing to feel after living somewhere for so many years. To feel like you are at home in a transient world is a big deal. Like, a REALLY BIG DEAL. The thing is, today, what we know as “home” may not be where we grew up…it may not be somewhere we have lived a long time….and it may not be somewhere we stay forever…but it’s a place you love. It’s a place that the world seems right, and it’s the place that is home in your heart.

When Cricut reached out about this fun “free throw” competition for March Madness, I wanted to participate…but I had to come up with something I would want on my chairs…something that fit our style, our family, and something we would love to use regularly. Finally feeling like a Floridian, I took inspiration from the state love necklaces I saw on Etsy LONG AGO, and I thought it would be fun to make a state love pillow! I used one of my throw pillow covers, a sheet of grey iron on vinyl from Cricut and a sheet of gold glitter iron on vinyl (because we can all use more glitter in our lives, right?)

In Cricut I set up my state with the State Cartridge and picked some cute hearts to place on the surrounding area. I cut both the glitter sheet and the grey sheet with the same patterns so I could make reverse designs on different pillows. You have to remember to inverse your state before you cut it so that it when you iron it on it’s the right way. I ironed the layers onto the pillow cover and put the pillow back in…and I was done! This would make a perfect gift for a bridal shower or house warming!

  1. Love this Kori! I LOVE Florida and call it my second home (for many reasons) one being that it’s not home cause I don’t ‘live’ there and it’s not originally where I’m from but it’s where LOVE is for me! My family moved to Florida from Puerto Rico when I was 15. I got married in FL, my family is there, my best friend is there and my heart is there somehow with all of them. It’s the place where I go to refresh, reload, and have fun!
