Those of you who know me personally, have probably met my parents at one time or another. Even though they live 7 hours away, they make a point to “stay close” as often as they can. Through my teen years, I thought they were too strict…they had too many rules…and they just didn’t understand. As a mom now, I realize they understood. They REALLY understood, which is why they were strict! Looking back over all of my years growing up, the thing that sticks out the most is that they have always been a 2 for 1 deal. Everything they did, they did together. Decisions they made, they made together. They are a team.
When I read the “50 rules for Dads of Daughters” by Michael Mitchell on From Dates to Diapers, I teared up on the first one because it’s completely my dad …
“1. Love her mom. Treat her mother with respect, honor, and a big heaping spoonful of public displays of affection. When she grows up, the odds are good she’ll fall in love with and marry someone who treats her much like you treated her mother. Good or bad, that’s just the way it is. I’d prefer good.”
I also came across “Rules for Mothers of Daughters” from Diapers & Daisies and again found one that held true in my life in the way my mom taught love by always being loving…even when I was a rotten teen who wanted to be left alone. I can’t thank her enough for not EVER leaving me alone.
That’s awesome Kori! I was fortunate as well and hope to do the same with kids. Happy anniversary to your parents! May God bless them both.
How cute, and the fact that you cherish them!! Many blessings and happy anniversary to your parents!
Very sweet. Thanks.
XOXOXO, Mom
